Charlie Harger: Move the Primary to May. Here's Why.
Charlie Harger's primary ballot is still sitting on top of his microwave. And he's a nerd for this stuff. If a political junkie is still cramming, that tells you something.
Washington holds its primary the first Tuesday in August — arguably the worst week of the year to ask anyone to pay attention. Turnout in 2022 was around 40%. Six out of ten voters sat it out. Republicans, Democrats, and former Secretaries of State all agree the date is a flop. Charlie's pitch: move it to late May, before summer scatters everyone.
