Cold Case: Who Killed This Marine Vet in Arlington?
A family's search for justice has now stretched into its fifth year — and investigators are hoping renewed attention and a $25,000 reward will finally bring answers.
On the morning of April 10, 2021, 78-year-old Ivan Maik — a Marine veteran and retired U.S. Forest Service worker — followed his usual routine in Snohomish County. He stopped at a local bank ATM before pulling into the parking lot of the clinic where he received dialysis treatment.
That's where a suspect pulled up alongside him, opened his car door, and executed him inside his vehicle. As the gunman fled, he opened fire on two witnesses who had heard the shots — missing them, but escaping before police arrived.
Detectives have released surveillance details on the suspect vehicle:
• A dark-colored, older model SUV
• Possibly a Land Rover/Range Rover or dark Jeep
• Silver wheels
Maik's daughter added $24,000 of her own money to the existing reward fund, bringing the total offered through Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and charge.
