Seattle Just Had Its First Murder-Free Month Since 1970
For the first time since 1970, the City of Seattle went an entire month without a single homicide. The last time June was this quiet, Boeing was shedding jobs, gas was 36 cents a gallon, and Charlie Harger wouldn't be born for another five years.
Something changed. Police Chief Shon Barnes is telling officers to get out of their cars and talk to people. The department's homicide clearance rate is 72%, well above the national average. And the World Cup poured federal manpower into the region. Charlie on what Seattle just proved, and the choice the city council faces now that the tournament is leaving town.
