The Blue Angels Are Just Too Exciting for Seattle
Charlie Harger owes The Seattle Times Editorial Board an apology. For years, he foolishly defended the Blue Angels — dismissing legitimate concerns about excitement, wonder, and adrenaline. He's finally seen the light.
Six F/A-18 Super Hornets flying feet apart at hundreds of miles an hour is, quite frankly, irresponsible. Middle-aged men become briefly convinced they can land a jet on a carrier. Strangers point at the sky and shout "Whoaaaaaa" to one another. Children fall into dangerous dreams of aviation. This is not the calm, thoughtful, appropriately muted Seattle we've worked so hard to build. Charlie now agrees: it's time to replace the Blue Angels with six hobby drones flown by conflict-resolution specialists.
