Three Bills. One Question: Will Olympia Protect Kids?
Tomorrow in Olympia, lawmakers will hear bills that could change what happened to a 9-year-old boy who lived for months in a fentanyl-filled tent along Aurora Avenue.
Despite repeated visits from caseworkers and police, the child was deemed not to be in “imminent physical harm” under current law — a phrase that is never defined in statute. That interpretation kept the system from intervening until after KIRO Newsradio’s reporting brought public attention to the case.
