WA Lawmakers Block Bill to Remove Kids From Homes With Fentanyl?

A deeply emotional debate unfolded in Olympia over Washington’s child welfare laws and the fentanyl crisis. Republican lawmakers attempted to pass a measure that would update the legal standard for when children can be removed from homes where hard drugs are present. The proposal argued that smoking fentanyl around children should qualify as a reason for state intervention.

The amendment ultimately failed in the Washington State House, despite several Democrats crossing the aisle to support it.
