The city of Mukilteo has launched a search for a private development partner to help transform part of its waterfront, the Everett Herald has reported. The city is coordinating its developer-selection process with the Port of Everett.

City officials have issued a request for qualifications for the redevelopment of a 1.19-acre parcel known as Lot 5, with plans to offer the site through a long-term ground lease while retaining public ownership of the land, according to the article.

The project has been years in the making and is part of a broader effort to revitalize Mukilteo’s waterfront with new commercial, residential, and public spaces, the article continued.

Much of the property was previously occupied by a former U.S. Air Force fuel storage facility before environmental cleanup and land transfers allowed the city and the Port of Everett to begin planning for new uses. The Mukilteo City Council approved moving forward with the leasing strategy earlier this year rather than selling the property outright.
