Renton-based Radiant Logistics has launched a new independent-agent program for its trucking and rail-shipping business, expanding a model it has used for nearly 20 years in its freight-forwarding operations.

According to a company press release, the program allows experienced transportation professionals to run their own businesses while using Radiant’s technology, shipping network, and back-office support. Agents can arrange truck, rail, and other freight services for customers without having to build the infrastructure on their own.

Radiant said the program also gives agency owners the opportunity to build long-term value in their businesses, with the option to eventually sell their agencies back to the company. The model is similar to the one Radiant has used to grow its freight-forwarding network since 2006.

“Radiant Road & Rail has spent the past several years building the technology, carrier relationships, and operational depth needed to compete at the highest levels of the brokerage business,” said Chris Brach, senior vice president and general manager of Radiant Road & Rail, in the release. “Over that time, we’ve built out our over-the-road brokerage offering using Revenova as our transportation-management system and are pleased to now have the opportunity to open up the full capabilities of the Road & Rail platform to independent agents who want the autonomy of running their own business without having to build the infrastructure behind it themselves.”

The company noted that it is recruiting additional transportation professionals and independent agencies to join the new network. Radiant Road & Rail provides trucking and rail-brokerage services across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
