Get ready for another tasty event in Seattle.

The Bite of PhinneyWood is returning for another year, featuring more than a dozen local restaurants.

“This much-anticipated event invites community members to indulge in culinary delights from up to 20 local restaurants while celebrating the vibrant and growing food scene of the Greenwood and Phinney Ridge neighborhoods,” the Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) stated in its new release.

On Sunday, September 14, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., foodies will be able to indulge in bites from each participating restaurant. The event will be held at the Phinney Center’s lower parking lot at 6532 Phinney Avenue North.

Bite of PhinneyWood is different than Bite of Seattle

While the Bite of PhinneyWood might sound similar to the Bite of Seattle, the events are quite different.

The Bite of Seattle faced criticism for allegedly prioritizing out-of-state vendors, FOX 13 reported. Chris Maykut, spokesperson for the Phinney Ridge Association, assured MyNorthwest that the 19 participants in the upcoming neighborhood festival are all from within the Phinney Ridge area.

The Bite of Seattle also faced criticism for lax security. Maykut said that, as a ticketed event, volunteers at the Bite of PhinneyWood are on hand to ensure no one sneaks in.

“We’ve had large events here at the Phinney Center for over 30 years and never had a negative safety issue, so we’re pretty confident that this will be another safe event,” Maykut wrote in an email to MyNorthwest.

Lastly, while Bite of Seattle attendees complained about high prices, each ticket at Bite of PhinneyWood covers a dish from every participating eatery, making it a “true tasting event,” the PNA noted. With tickets ranging from $50 to $80, that works out to about $3 to $4 per dish.

“We just moved to Phinney and loved this event,” a previous attendee told the PNA. “It was perfect for a newbie to try out all the restaurants and find favorites.”

All four event winners from 2023 will be returning: Autumn, Lioness, Petit Pierre, and Coffeeholic House.

Several newer restaurants will also be in attendance, including Greenwood American Bistro, Cocoa Legato, Ray’s Rice and Noodle Bar, Culina at Phinney Station, Arigato Sushi, BoBu, Masala Magic, and Stumbletown.

Additional participants are Valhalla Sandwiches, Nutty Squirrel Gelato, Gorgeous George’s, Chocolat Vitale, Wild Mountain Café, Tacos and Beer, and The Orcas Project.

There will also be a beer and wine garden, with contributions from Doe Bay Winery, Lucky Envelope Brewing, and Yonder Cider.

Tickets start at $60 for non-PNA members and $50 for members. Those wanting to splurge a bit more can get VIP tickets for $80 for non-members and $70 for members.

All proceeds go toward community services, such as the Hot Meal Program, Greenwood Senior Center, and the PNA Tool Library.
