Washington’s chances are high for winning this year’s nationwide March Muttness contest.

Five Washington shelters are participating in the pawpular event, the most shelters in a state in the country.

Adams County Pet Rescue, Everett Animal Shelter, Motley Zoo Animal Rescue, Auburn Valley Humane Society, and Yakima Humane Society have all entered the tournament.

Washington shelter leading March Muttness

Despite some ruff opponents, Yakima Humane Society is in the lead with $6,133 in donations so far. It’s currently facing off against Providence Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island, which only has $58 in donations.

Auburn Valley Humane Society is losing to Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue in Wyoming by $490 in donations.

Adams County Pet Rescue is beating Virginia’s Fredericksburg SPCA by $114 in donations.

The two other Washington shelters are facing off against each other. Everett Animal Shelter currently has no donations, while Motley Zoo Animal Rescue has $130.

While 51 teams entered the tournament, less than half will make it to the Snuggly 16. From there, shelters will compete to make it to the Furry 4 before the Championship Round.

To donate, visit the March Muttness website.
