A new authentic Indian chai café is becoming a neighborhood staple in Lakewood, one cup at a time.

“Chai is culture to me. Chai is connection to me. Chai is comfort to me,” said Chai Pyala co-owner Honey Batth. “I wanted to bring that to our community.”

She began eight years ago at farmers markets, serving authentic Indian dessert fusions and freshly made chai. That led to the opening of the brick-and-mortar café she recently opened with her husband, Guru Batth.

The space is designed to feel like a cozy lounge; a place to slow down, connect, share stories, and enjoy a cup of chai. The menu centers on authentic chai made with real ingredients. Start with Masala Chai, or explore something more adventurous, like a creative chai latte inspired by classic Indian desserts.

“Our signature lattes are something new. They’re my own creations,” Honey said. “It was really difficult to infuse those flavors into chai while keeping the authenticity of both. There was a lot of trial and error.”

Try the Black Forest cake, a classic flavor from North Indian bakeries that Honey said she “had to bring here.” It has quickly become a surprise favorite among first-time visitors.

Savory items include samosas and paneer puff pastries.

“Samosas and chai are the best combination ever,” Honey said.

Beyond the menu, the business is rooted in service and community values. Chai Pyala is both veteran-owned and educator-owned: Guru served in the U.S. Army, while Honey spent her career in education.
