The DuPont Historical Museum is bringing the Pacific Northwest’s nautical past to life with a new exhibit featuring a 3D-printed model of the SS Beaver, the first steamship to ever operate on the region’s coast.

Researched and curated by Jer Holm, the exhibit showcases how the Hudson’s Bay Co. vessel transformed transportation, trade, and settlement in the 1800s.

Holm partnered with Chad Morgan of Nerd Alley 3D Printing to digitally recreate the ship using historical references, CAD modeling, and 3D-printing technology, with finishing details completed by Sky Morgan.

The exhibit is part of the museum’s America 250 commemoration and joins other displays highlighting Indigenous trade networks, Fort Nisqually, the Hudson’s Bay Company, and DuPont’s history.
