Grocery store chain Trader Joe’s continues adding new locations across Washington, with two new stores “coming soon” in Spokane Valley and Northgate.

Analysis from the Trader Joe’s website shows 16 new stores have opened their doors since the start of 2026, including the company’s expansion to Woodinville on May 15 along NE Woodinville Duvall Road.

Founded in Pasadena, California, by Joe Coulombe in 1967, Trader Joe’s footprint in Washington is vast, with 30 stores operating in 20 different cities.

This week, the company also plans to open new locations in Anaheim Hills, California, and West Jordan, Utah.

Trader Joe’s continued growth across WA

A closer look at the company’s announcements page reveals the grocer wants even more locations in Washington. New stores in Spokane Valley and Seattle’s Northgate neighborhood are listed as “coming soon,” though the grand opening for both stores has yet to be decided.

Trader Joe’s is known for an array of “unique and interesting products, along with everyday basics.” Earlier this year, the grocer added two new items to its own Product Hall of Fame: teeny tiny avocados and spiced cider. The company’s most recent customer choice awards revealed its most popular products are: steamed pork and ginger soup dumplings, butternut squash mac and cheese, steamed chicken soup dumplings, sourdough bread, and butter chicken with basmati rice.

Activism mindset

In 2025, Spike O’Neill applauded the company’s positive impact on the community while co-hosting “The Jake and Spike Show” on KIRO Newsradio. Spike praised the company’s “Neighborhood Shares” program, which donates 100% of unsold products to local non-profit organizations. The mission to reduce hunger and minimize food waste has led to partnerships with 2,100 organizations nationwide.

“Trader Joe’s does something wonderful, and most other grocery stores do it too. But if you’re going to go and visit the new Trader Joe’s, [they] make sure that nothing goes to waste,” Spike said. “They do make great efforts and spend company resources and manpower on making sure that no produce goes to waste and it’s all distributed to families who really need the help these days, because there are so few people helping these days and I’m glad they’re doing it.”
