Ball of Wax Audio Quarterly was founded by local musician Levi Fuller in 2005 as a place where he could focus on delivering to you, the avid music listener, music that might not otherwise be heard. Whether the music is coming from right here in our own city of Seattle, somewhere across the U.S.A. or the world, you’re going to know about it.

Ball of Wax 32 is happening this Saturday, June 8th at Conor Byrne and will feature live music from The Foghorns, Black Swedes, Levi Fuller & the Library, Pampa, GreenhornBluehorn and Robert Deeble. Oh, plus you get a free copy of Ball of Wax 32 upon entry! Only $7!

Brent Amaker & The Rodeo are also playing this Saturday, June 8th at Neumos. It’s the album release for the whiskey drinking, women loving, urban cowboys who just don’t give an eff. Year of the Dragon is the 4th LP from the guys which isn’t much of a departure from their past records but it’s still a rock and rollin’ great time.

Gold Wolf Galaxy are two guys who make space age metal music. I really don’t know what to say about Gold Wolf Galaxy except that they confuse and excite me all at the same time.

I think Spencer and Johnny describe themselves best on their Facebook page:

Spencer was born in the electronic world. Johnny Roger was born in the metal world. Together, they make music that sounds like Blondie jamming with Mastodon and Justice while Goldfrapp mixes cocktails onboard a disco-party-battleship in outerspace. And everybody is dancing. And everybody looks like David Bowie. And everybody is thinking of lip gloss and laser beams. Boom. Done.

See them play live this Saturday at The Comet.

For feminists, the deaths of Parton and Steinem days apart deliver a double dose of grief

One shaped and delivered the language of feminism. The other rejected the label but showed how feminism can be done: with a microphone dusted in rhinestones, and without apology. Gloria Steinem and Dolly Parton embodied two towering versions of the same idea: that women should know themselves well enough to make their own choices about […]
