Halloween weekend is here, including an extra hour thanks to the time change, and we are looking at solid weather and tons of fun going on this weekend!

Free Día de Muertos celebrations and Trolloween festivities

Day of the Dead celebrations continue across the region this weekend, including Orquesta Northwest’s performance at St. James Cathedral Friday at 7 p.m., Roots of Remembrance at the Spartan Recreation Center in Shoreline Friday starting at 5 p.m., the Día de Muertos Festival in the Seattle Center Armory, which runs Saturday and Sunday, and the Día de los Muertos Festival at the Tacoma Art Museum on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. These events are free to attend.

Trolloween is Saturday night in Fremont, and this birthday celebration for the Fremont Troll will feature live music and a theatrical pageant at the troll, and then … it will be time for the Haunt of Fremont, which is a costumed procession through the neighborhood. You’ll want to make sure you are in costume; it is Halloween after all, when you meet at the Fremont Troll by 7 p.m. sharp. Trolloween is free to attend.

Spooky music at Benaroya Hall and pumpkin fun at Woodland Park Zoo

If you have kids ages 6 to 12, Benaroya Hall is putting on an event that’ll be a perfect way to kick off your Halloween. While you’ll need a ticket to get in, 60 minutes ahead of showtime, there will be free activities including crafts and instrument discovery. After the pre-show fun, you’ll enjoy a show full of spooky music, highlighted by the mighty organ. Be sure to come in costume. The Halloween Spooktacular is Saturday starting at 10 a.m.

The Woodland Park Zoo is putting on the Pumpkin Bash on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. This will be a day full of pumpkins for the animals, trick-or-treating throughout the zoo, a costume parade, and lots more surprises throughout the park. You’ll want to make sure you come in costume to see all the different animals smash and munch their way through pumpkins and other fall-themed treats. You can get tickets and a full schedule of the feeding times for the animals on the Woodland Park Zoo’s website.

Halloween scares at Wild Waves and toy treasures in Puyallup

It is the final weekend to walk through the park grounds of Wild Waves during the final weekend of Fright Fest and Booville at the park. Booville runs during the day and features trick-or-treating throughout the park, face painting, and lots more fun for kids 12 and under. As the sun goes down, the park transforms into Fright Fest, complete with haunted houses, scare zones, thrill rides, and plenty more. Make this Halloween a memorable one as you take one last trip to Wild Waves. Tickets and event details are available on their website.

The Washington State Toy Show will have 400 tables of collectibles, toys, comics, and tons more at the Washington State Fair and Events Center. This will be the perfect spot to get a jump-start on the holiday shopping season for the collector in your life, or a really good opportunity to take a trip down memory lane. Maybe you’ll spot that toy you always wanted and now are able to get it! The Washington State Toy Show is Saturday and Sunday, and you will need a ticket to get in.

Free Japanese Culture Day Festival brings food, crafts and samurai demonstrations

The Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Washington is putting on the Japanese Culture Day Festival on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This will be a daylong celebration of Japanese culture, including craft-making, a tea ceremony, samurai demonstrations, plenty of tasty food to try, and a ton more activities! This event is free to attend.

We got pretty lucky that Halloween fell on a Saturday this year. I hope you get out and enjoy it! Up next? The holiday season … are you getting prepared? Let me know at paulh@kiroradio.com.
