A 27-year-old snowboarder died from an accident on Stevens Pass Thursday, Jan. 8.

The male snowboarder was reported unconscious at 12 p.m. at the Stevens Pass ski area, prompting an emergency response from the King County Sheriff’s Office. Skykomish Fire and a ski patrol were able to locate the man and provided CPR at the scene. The victim, Marco Antonio Perez Canals, was then assisted by King County Fire District 50 and Snohomish County Fire District 26.

Despite life-saving efforts, the 27-year-old was pronounced dead a short time later. No foul play was involved, according to the sheriff’s office, as investigators believed he crashed head-first into a snow-covered creek well.

“Stevens Pass, Ski Patrol, and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends,” Ellen Galbraith, vice president and general manager at Stevens Pass, said in a statement.
