Animal rescue seeks help for 14 horses in Thurston County

A non-profit horse rescue group is scrambling to find homes for 14 starving horses seized from a farm south of Olympia.

The Hooved Animal Rescue of Thurston County is doing blood-work on the horses right now and looking for the public’s help in getting them healthy. Kathy Bailey is the group’s president. She said they all need a lot of groceries and places to stay.

“Some of our foster homes will double-up, move-around, call friends and family, anybody they can think of and say ‘Hey, can you take a horse?'” Bailey said.

But since the animals are part of a criminal investigation, they can’t be sent far from Thurston County. The horses range in age from 6 months to 20 or more years old.

Bailey said the initial care for these animals can run over $10,000.
