Army: Doctors not discouraged from diagnosing PTSD

Feb 10, 2012, 5:22 AM | Updated: 8:05 am

The Army’s top medical officer says doctors at Madigan Army Medical Center are not being discouraged to diagnose soldiers with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

General Patricia Horoho testified before a House subcommittee that the Army is not putting pressure on doctors in PTSD cases.

Fourteen soldiers at Joint Base Lewis McChord have claimed their PTSD cases weren’t handled appropriately. They say the Army denied their PTSD claims because it would cost too much money to care for them. A PTSD diagnosis can mean a medical retirement which comes with lifetime medical benefits.

General Horoho, who used to be the commander at Madigan, has asked the Army inspector general to review what’s happening at the hospital.
