Rainfall makes its entrance in Western Washington

Get ready to get soaked.

Weather forecasters say two atmospheric river events are headed our way.

The first is expected to begin on Monday with bands of light rain moving into Western Washington.

The second, coming Tuesday and lasting until Friday, is expected to be stronger and carry widespread showers, especially in the south sound.

A front moves into the coast on Monday morning. It’s expected to break up a bit as it moves into the interior, but weather watchers are expecting rain showers from Monday morning through Monday afternoon west of the Cascades.

Highs will be in the low 60s in Seattle.

A forecast briefing from the National Weather Service predicts breezy conditions will also start hitting parts of the Puget Sound early this week.

The National Weather Service predicts a low-pressure system will bring much cooler air and rainfall on Wednesday, with wind gusts in the 20-30 mph range in the lowlands.

Rainfall totals in the lowlands could be more than a quarter inch on Wednesday with more than an inch at the coast and in the mountains.

The briefing advises river flooding probably won’t happen during this round of rain.  But it is likely some areas could be affected by potential flooding later in the season.

November is statistically the rainiest time for western Washington.

We could also see the season’s first snow in the mountains.  Drivers headed over the Cascades may have to deal with snowy conditions

Snow levels are expected to fall to as low as 4,000 feet on Thursday and Friday. That is the elevation of Stevens Pass along US 2. While lowland rain falls in the Puget Sound region, a few inches of snow will fall in the mountains, with even more forecast for the higher peaks.

Highs in the lowlands will be in the low to mid-50s, which will be the coldest days we’ve seen since May.
