Attorney ‘pretty sure’ Mastros rings recovered

Nov 15, 2012, 7:42 AM | Updated: 8:07 am

Two giant, diamond rings at the center of a multi-million dollar bankruptcy case in Seattle have apparently been found.

Shortly after a Seattle bankruptcy judge ordered Michael Mastro, 87 and his 63-year old wife, Linda to turn over the rings in 2010, the Mastros disappeared. They were arrested in France last month. Now, their French attorney, Thomas Terrier, says he’s “pretty sure” the rings have been located.

Following the arrest of the Mastros, bankruptcy trustee James Rigby described the rings, the largest an amazing 27 carats.

“Actually the second piece was even more spectacular,” said Rigby. “It was only 17 carats but it was nearly a perfect diamond, truly a beautiful diamond.”

The Mastros are being held following their indictment on 43 counts of bankruptcy fraud and money laundering.

The Puget Sound Business Journal reports the Mastros’ attorney is hoping to win their release to house arrest, now that the final key assets, the rings, are secured.
