1 dead after early morning barn fire in Pierce County

An early morning barn fire on Tuesday killed a 50-year-old man who was living inside the structure in Pierce County.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., East Pierce Fire & Rescue (EPFR) responded to reports of a barn fire in the 28600 block of 112th Street E. in an unincorporated part of Pierce County near Buckley, EPFR announced.
One person dead in Pierce County barn fire
The property owners noted that three barns and a main house are on the property, and the barn that was on fire had a 50-year-old man living inside it.
After firefighters put out the fire, the 50-year-old man was found dead inside the structure.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office stated the cause of the fire is unknown; however, many types of chemicals exploded inside the barn during the fire.
The victim would also reportedly light small fires inside the barn to keep warm.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control by 1:37 a.m., after a total of 13 units responded to the scene, according to KIRO 7.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, Medical Examiner’s Office, and forensic investigators responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
EPFR crews cleared the scene, and the process has been turned over to the Pierce County Fire Marshal.
The fire department noted that no further information is available at this time.
