An Index resident survived a bear attack outside their home Sunday morning and was only slightly hurt.

According to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, the person was taking out the trash at their home on Index-Galena Road when they came across a mama bear and her cub.

The bear attacked.

Luckily, the confrontation resulted in just minor injuries.

An ambulance transported them to receive medical attention.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is investigating the incident.

Wildlife agents want to make sure the public is informed about the attack and the community remains alert.

Authorities said people should report any bear sightings near them to WDFW by phone at 360-902-2936.

They added that if someone encounters a bear, the best action is to stay indoors if possible and not approach the animal.
