The man suspected of killing a woman at the Avalon Apartments in Bellevue was arrested in northern California on Monday night.
Bellevue Police spokesperson Seth Tyler said US Marshals in Siskiyou County arrested Song Wang without incident.
“He is in custody … which is great news for those involved in the case,” Tyler said.
On March 31, firefighters responding to a fire on the sixth floor at the apartments found the body of a 37-year-old female with what police described as “injuries consistent with homicidal violence.”
Police released Wang’s description on April 4 and said he was last spotted in Portland, OR.
“He wanted to get away,” said new Bellevue Police Chief Steve Mylett. “When someone engages in this type of conduct, especially if they don’t have an emotional tie to the area, they will create as much distance between that city and themselves.”
Investigators from the Bellevue Police Department will travel to Siskiyou County to interview Wang on Tuesday.
Mylett didn’t release information about the relationship between Wang and the victim, but said those details would be released in charging documents.
“I have not been able to determine that there is a specific connection to human trafficking,” he said. “However, the investigation is still ongoing. If that did exist, we will find out.”
Police expect it could take several days to bring Wang back to King County, depending on the details of his extradition.
