Blue Angels in the air halt drivers on I-90

Aug 4, 2011, 4:53 AM | Updated: Oct 10, 2012, 7:28 am

The ooh’s and aah’s that come with watching the Blue Angels scream across Lake Washington will be accompanied by the moans and groans of people trying to get into and out of Seattle.

I-90 will be closed for Blue Angels shows and practices Friday through Sunday. All three days the bridge will be closed from 12:45 p.m.-2:40 p.m.

Jamie Holter with the Washington Department of Transportation said crews start shutting down ramps and restricting access to the bridge about a half-hour before the closures.

“To be honest this is something that runs like clockwork,” she said. “Boom – the closures start – ramp, ramp, express lanes, roads, highway, and then boom the Blue Angels are in the air.”
