The body of a newborn baby girl was discovered in the front yard of a home in Olympia Tuesday morning, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives found the remains after a 16-year-old girl told her high school counselor that she and her boyfriend buried the child in a flowerbed when it was stillborn in June.
Both teens are students at River Ridge High School in Lacey.
“They’d been concealing the pregnancy from everyone, and once the incident happened in June they discussed how they were going to address the situation and this is what they came up with,” said Lt. Greg Elwin.
Elwin said a coroner will determine cause of death, but foul play is not suspected.
The couple could face a misdemeanor charge for improper disposal of human remains.
