The Dick’s Drive-In location on Broadway has been a fixture in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood since it opened nearly seven decades ago. Soon, it’ll be closing down for months for its first-ever remodel.

Dick’s Drive-In plans to ‘invest in employees’ by increasing base wages

According to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, the Broadway Dick’s closure will begin on Monday, Dec. 13, while workers install new plumbing, electrical systems, built-in coolers, and more. The restaurant stressed that the exterior of the structure will remain unchanged.

The hope is to complete those upgrades by the spring of 2022, but a firm date for reopening has not yet been set.

Employees at that Dick’s Drive-In location will temporarily be moved over to different locations, but will return once the remodel is finished. There are also plans to regularly visit the area with the Dick’s food truck during the closure.

The Broadway Dick’s was the second location ever opened in Seattle, following the burger shack’s debut on Northwest 45th Street in the summer of 1954.
