Seattle-area drive-in chain Burgermaster is expanding north with a new restaurant, beginning construction ahead of the family-owned business’s 75th anniversary in 2027.

The company plans to open its next restaurant in 2027 at 8925 35th Ave. NE in Marysville. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15, with remarks from third-generation owner and CEO Alex Jensen.

Burgermaster also plans to operate a temporary kitchen during construction to continue serving customers in Marysville, according to the company.

The new restaurant follows the launch of drive-in dining at Burgermaster’s Issaquah location in May 2026.

Burgermaster founded in 1952

Founded in 1952, Burgermaster is known for its grass-fed beef burgers, locally sourced ingredients, and classic milkshakes and malts. In fact, when Microsoft first opened its headquarters, the Bellevue Burgermaster was one of only three phone numbers on speed dial, according to the company’s website.

The family-owned business also features seasonal gardens at its restaurant locations.

Burgermaster currently has five restaurants: in Bellevue, Issaquah, Mill Creek and Mount Vernon, and on Aurora Avenue in Seattle. The Bellevue location is now serving breakfast, Burgermaster announced on its website.

The chain also expanded its beverage lineup this year with Grandpa Phil’s Root Beer, which became available at all locations on July 1. Named for founder Phil Jensen, the drink was developed under the direction of his grandson, Alex Jensen. It contains real cane sugar and no artificial flavors, according to the company.

Flagship closes in 2025 after 73 years

In January 2025, Burgermaster announced that it was not renewing its lease at its flagship location in the University District.

“It’s with heavy hearts that we must announce that our final day of service will be Sunday, Feb. 23,” the chain wrote in a news release.

The University District restaurant was in operation for 73 years.

“We are grateful for all the love we have received since announcing the closure of this location,” Burgermaster stated. “Serving the people of the Greater Seattle area has truly been our pleasure. While this chapter is closing, we look forward to continuing our legacy at our five remaining locations and are excited about future growth.”

The Marysville restaurant will be the chain’s sixth location.
