Parents are driving their children to and from school in Burien Tuesday after a teen girl was shot walking home from school on Monday.

The 14-year-old girl was shot in the torso with a small-caliber bullet or pellet as she walked home from school with friends in Burien.

Sgt. Cindi West said the eighth grader was in good condition Monday night. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle to have the object removed.

West said the girl was walking home Monday afternoon from St. Francis of Assisi School when she heard a “pop” and realized she had been shot.

“It does appear to be random. At least one of the boys with her told police there was a red car in the area at the time,” said West.

The school is cautioning parents to be sure their children are driven to and from school for the time being.

Deputies are investigating. They do not yet know whether the shot came from a car or a nearby area.
