Senator Maria Cantwell and Republican challenger Susan Hutchison faced off in their second debate Saturday before November’s election.

The one-hour debate, sponsored by the Washington State Debate Coalition, was held at Spokane Community College.

Their first debate, also hosted by the Washington State Debate Coalition, took place on Oct. 7 at Pacific Lutheran University. The Cantwell-Hutchison debates came after Cantwell initially opted not to participate. She relented following a good deal of pressure.

Hutchison blasted Cantwell for not connecting with the people of Washington state, especially east of the Cascades. But Cantwell fired back and said she relies on her constituents for good ideas related to fighting the opioid crisis and dealing with the state’s devastating wildfires.
