Car fire slows traffic on northbound I-405 at SE 8th Street in Bellevue. (WSDOT)

Traffic was stalled on northbound I-405 in Bellevue following a Monday morning car fire on the freeway.

Emergency crews responded to a car fire in the shoulder of northbound I-405 near SE 8th Street in Bellevue at around 6 a.m.

The right lane was blocked as the vehicle sent smoke into the air, and firefighters battled the blaze.

A backup formed on northbound I-405, causing the trip from Renton to Bellevue to take approximately 50 minutes, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

WSDOT reported all lanes on I-405 were open by 6:50 a.m.
