A fatal collision involving a dump truck and a car in the Central District neighborhood is currently under investigation.

At approximately 9 a.m., Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers responded to a collision in the 400 block of 23rd Avenue, SPD announced.

As officers arrived, they found an unresponsive 63-year-old man inside a sedan. SPD administered life-saving measures until the Seattle Fire Department arrived.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics pronounced the man dead at the scene. The 25-year-old dump truck driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Detectives say the sedan crossed into oncoming traffic before the crash

Detectives determined that the 63-year-old man was driving northbound and crossed into the southbound traffic, ultimately colliding with the dump truck.

The truck driver was evaluated at the scene for any injuries, and SPD noted there were no signs of impairment present.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded and processed the scene. The SPD investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad at (206) 684-8923.
