Ciscoe Morris: You will love a nice bird bath

Jul 27, 2012, 8:19 AM | Updated: 12:40 pm

Everybody needs a cool drink of water and a nice dip in
the summer months, even the birds.

Master gardener Ciscoe Morris says you should consider
getting at least one bird bath for your yard and place it
in a spot near a window.

“It’s so fun to watch them frolic,” he says.

It’s a good idea to go out there every day to blast the
bird bath with a hose and nozzle and then fill it up with
fresh water.

If you have a lot of plants, the birds might also find a
tasty treat to snack on. If not, you might consider a
feeder.

Ciscoe has spotted Towhees, Chickadees, Nuthatches, and
hummingbirds running around his garden in the past week.
And they all love his three bird baths.

“I looked out and there were seven robins in there,” he
says.

As for naturally attracting the hummingbirds, Ciscoe
recommends Cocosmia, Monarda, Lobelia, Salvia hot lips.

Yes, that’s hot lips.

“You can just hear the hummingbirds start screaming when
the blooms open up on those.”
