Cliff Avril draws attention to issue that is ‘big part’ of his life

Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril is putting his time in the green and blue spotlight to use, drawing attention to the issue of juvenile diabetes.
It’s an issue close to his heart.
“My Dining to Make a Difference charity is important to me. It’s geared toward juvenile diabetes,” Avril told Seattle’s Morning News on KIRO Radio.
“Diabetes is a big part of my life,” he said. “My mom has it. My grandma passed from it. All my aunties have it. I just want to get awareness out about it.”
The Dining to Make a Difference event was held on Sept. 28. It offered a three-course meal served up by a few fellow Seahawks. Proceeds benefited the Cliff Avril Family Foundation, which raises awareness about diabetes. The organization works to education youth about the disease before it can become a problem.
Avril also told KIRO Radio about an upcoming campaign for Seahawks fans.
“It’s to celebrate the 12s,” he said.
Not just celebrate them, but to highlight the good work community members and Seahawks fans are doing. Through the month of October, fans are encouraged to spread the word on social media of good work their family, friends or themselves are doing in the community. Fans can spread the word with the hashtag #12s4Good.
Select do-gooders will receive signed Seahawks memorabilia.
