The ramp from SR-7 Extension to northbound I-5 was blocked Tuesday morning for the investigation of a multi-car collision. As of 7:30 a.m., the road is back open.

Rain-snow mix, icy roads may greet Tuesday morning commuters

Washington State Patrol Trooper Robert Reyer said on Twitter that eight to 12 vehicles were involved in the collision, including a patrol car that was struck.

Drivers had been asked to use alternate routes.

Reyer said earlier Tuesday that troopers were handling “several spin-out collisions due to icy road conditions in our district.” The snow that has impacted the Puget Sound region in the last week may be mostly or completely gone, but there could still be ice on the roads.

In a tweet stating that the road was open again, Reyer reminded drivers to slow down.

“You often won’t see ice until it ‘guides’ you into a nearby ditch, barrier, or another car,” he wrote. “Sometimes, 15 MPH can be too fast.”

With temperatures ā€œhovering near freezingā€ across the area and continued showers Tuesday, the National Weather Service also warned drivers that ā€œareas of black ice are likely on roadways.ā€
