A suspicious item that caused a bomb scare Monday evening in downtown Seattle turned out to be a men’s cologne bottle in the shape of a hand grenade.

Police say it was a bottle of Victor & Rolf ‘Spicebomb’ men’s cologne, which is shaped a lot like a pineapple grenade.

A witness who saw a man dropping the bottle in a trash bin in the 1300 block of 3rd Avenue
called police, and the bomb squad responded.

University Street was closed for about two hours and buses were rerouted Monday evening while police investigated.

Police describe the suspect as a white male with shoulder-length gray-blond hair. He was last seen wearing all black clothing and carrying a bright green trash bag.

KIRO Editor Val Stouffer and the Associated Press contributed to this report.
