Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert accused Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos of murder in a recent interview with a woman fighting for the independent bookstore.

Colbert, just back from a week away from his fake-commentator desk, took on the Amazon founder during an interview with author and independent book store owner Ann Patchett.

Colbert cautioned Patchett against upsetting Bezos over the declining number of brick-and-mortar bookstores.

“He’s a vindictive man,” said Colbert. “He clubbed the owner of Borders to death with a tire iron.”

Colbert asked Patchett if she was afraid Bezos would yank her book if she criticized him. The author laughed, and said she’s not even a blip on Amazon’s radar.
