A recent poll conducted by Georgetown University found that the confidence citizens have in Amazon as an American institution is high both for liberals and conservatives.

Polling 5,400 respondents, Georgetown’s poll gauged the confidence Americans have in the country’s biggest institutions, their satisfaction with how democracy is working in the United States, and various opinions of opposing political parties.

The survey asked each respondent to “indicate their level of confidence” in 20 separate institutions.

The poll had respondents rate their confidence on a scale of one to five — The highest number among Democrats was 3.22 for Amazon, right ahead of colleges and universities at 3.20, the military at 3.15, and Google at 3.14. Republican confidence was topped by the military at 3.63, local police at 3.31, and Amazon at 3.07. You can see the top 10 for each party in the graphic below.

Combined among all respondents, Amazon checked in at second with a 3.12 rating — the military was first overall at 3.24.

Amazon has often proven to be a polarizing presence in the Pacific Northwest. Earlier in 2018, the company made headlines after the Seattle City Council passed, and then subsequently repealed its controversial head tax.

Additionally, a recent raise in pay for the company’s warehouse workers was met with criticism after it was revealed that it came with the removal of stock options and seasonal bonuses.

That hasn’t put a damper on confidence for the company nationwide, as evidenced by Georgetown’s survey.

Other data gathered by the poll indicated that Democrats and Republics both view each other a “very serious threat” to the United States and its people. Combined across respondents, 30 percent were “somewhat satisfied” with how democracy is working in the United States, 25 percent were neutral, and 15 percent were “very dissatisfied.”

Interviews for the survey were conducted online between June 12 and July 19, 2018, including a sample size of 800 African-Americans, 800 Latino Americans, and 800 Asian Americans. The margin of error was plus or minus 1.3 percentage points.
