Congressman Dave Reichert’s name has popped up as a possible replacement for fired FBI Director James Comey.

Medved: Firing of FBI director is political suicide for President Trump

According to Politico, the Auburn Republican and former King County sheriff is on a long list of potential candidates.

Reichert’s office says he has not been contacted about the role, but he might be open to it. Other names being considered include former New York Mayor Rudy Guiliani and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

President Trump abruptly fired Comey earlier this week.

Trump told NBC News that the FBI was in turmoil less than a year ago and still hasn’t recovered.

On Thursday, White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump’s comment was “probably based on numerous appearances” that Comey made. Comey testified before Congress several times this year. He also made public appearances regarding the FBI investigation into Russia’s alleged role in the presidential election.

The White House said Trump “acted based on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Rob Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.”

“The FBI is one of our Nation’s most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement,” said President Trump.

Andrew McCabe is now acting FBI Director as the administration works to permanently fill the role.
