Cut fiber line disables ability to call 911 in Monroe

Officials are working to restore the ability to call 911 in Monroe.

The City of Monroe and their fire department reported that a cut fiber optical cable is impacting phone service in the city.

The cut cable has impacted some people’s ability to dial the emergency number.

The City of Monroe has activated their emergency operations center, stationed personnel at fire and police stations and are currently conducting roving patrols throughout the community.

The urge residents not to place test calls to 911. If you are having problems contacting law enforcement the city urges you to go to your nearest police or fire station.

Preliminary reports indicated Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile phone networks are functioning properly while AT&T Wireless and Sprint/Nextel are not.
