Effort in legislature to do away with replacement license plates gets complicated

A simple bill about license plates has opened a larger can of worms at the state legislature.
It began with a desire to do away with the rule license plates have to be replaced every seven years. Many drivers and lawmakers feel it’s a costly and time-consuming requirement that isn’t necessary.
But as Senator Doug Ericksen was putting the bill together he found several other issues with the license and registration process that he’d like to address.
Ericksen has tacked on rules about service fees and licensing sub-agents. Senate Bill 5890 may be too overloaded now.
According to the Everett Herald, after a long hearing on the bill Tuesday, senators still aren’t ready to take any action.
