Everett students celebrating their high school graduation were alerted Wednesday that a gun show was booked at the Angel of the Winds Arena for the same day, according to an email from Everett Public Schools.

The gun show, scheduled for June 18 in the Edward Hansen Conference Center, which is connected to the Angels of the Winds Arena, was set to take place all day on Saturday.

According to an email from the school district, the district reserves the Angel of the Winds five years in advance and has no control over whom the arena rents the rest of the facility to.

While finalizing graduation details for Everett, Cascade and Jackson High Schools on Tuesday, the district said they were informed about the adjacent gun show.

The note to parents said it was important for parents to be aware of the event, as the topic of guns is sensitive due to recent national and local events.

The district said they would be changing the entrance for graduates and where parents should drop them off.

KIRO 7 reached out to the promoters of the gun show, Big Top Promotions, who confirmed they would be moving their weekend show from Saturday/Sunday to Sunday/Monday.

Big Top Promotions said there are Disney on Ice and Globetrotters events next to their gun shows all the time and asked why this is a big deal.

The promoter also said their event was booked before the graduation, saying they are typically scheduled a year and a half out.

After the district was alerted the gun show would be moving their date, another note was sent out to parents, saying they were pleased to announce that the graduation ceremony will be the only event occurring on that day.
