A Jack in the Box in Everett will permanently close in October and lay off all 24 employees at the location.

The Jack in the Box located at 1505 S.E. Everett Mall Way will cease operations due to a site closure that is effective Oct. 10, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing.

All affected employees were notified on Aug. 11 via written notice.

The layoffs included 20 team members, three team leaders, and one restaurant manager.

Everett Jack in the Box closure is part of a nationwide plan to shutter up to 200 stores

In late 2025, Jack in the Box announced plans to shutter between 150 and 200 underperforming stores by 2026, which included roughly 80 to 120 stores closing by the end of 2025, according to FOX 13.

The company was working to cut costs and boost revenue. Jack in the Box previously noted that it hoped the closures would boost its financial performance since the stores had been attracting fewer customers and a rise in beef prices had caused the company to carry more debt than it could generate in annual earnings.

“In my time thus far as CEO, I have worked quickly with our teams to conclude that Jack in the Box operates at its best and maximizes shareholder return potential, within a simplified and asset-light business model,” CEO Lance Tucker said in April, according to FOX 13.

“Our actions today focus on three main areas: Addressing our balance sheet to accelerate cash flow and pay down debt, while preserving growth-oriented capital investments related to technology and restaurant reimage; closing underperforming restaurants to position ourselves for consistent net unit growth and competitive unit economics; and an overall return to simplicity for the Jack in the Box business model and investor story,” Tucker continued.
