‘The switch is about to be flipped’: Fall weather will soon be here to stay

Oct 6, 2020, 5:35 PM

While the Seattle area has been treated to sunshine this week, that may very well be the last gasp of summer the region will be getting for the foreseeable future.

“The switch is about to be flipped,” the National Weather Service said Tuesday.

That means that after sunny weather in the mid-60s persists through Friday, “sharp changes in the weather pattern are coming this weekend with a likely extended stretch of wet and unsettled weather on the way.”

In total, the NWS expects to see between two and three inches of rainfall in the Seattle area over the weekend, and as many as four to six inches at higher elevations. Snow levels will also drop from 9,000 feet to 5,000 feet by Sunday afternoon, bringing snowfall “on the highest peaks.”

Before the rain comes for the weekend, temperatures will hover in the mid to upper 60s, possibly touching 70 degrees depending on where you are in the Puget Sound region.
