A SWAT team was called after a father shot his son in the leg, and engaged in an overnight standoff at a Federal Way home.
A 20-year-old man flagged down a police officer at 11:58 p.m. Wednesday night in the 2500 block of South 288 Street, Federal Way. The man told the officer his father had attacked him with a gun and shot him in the leg. His girlfriend had corroborated the story.
The gun wound was not life-threatening, but the man was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Police believed the father, a 50-year-old man, was suspected to have barricaded himself inside his home and armed himself with a shotgun. Police then surrounded the house in an attempt to secure the suspect, according to Cathy Schrock with the Federal Way Police Department.
“After several attempts from our patrol units to call the suspect out, we were unsuccessful so it turned into a SWAT call out,” she said. “Our SWAT team arrived within the hour and spent another hour or two trying to get the suspect to come out.”
Three people in the home were detained, but unrelated to the shooting incident. The father was not found. Federal Way police are searching for the man. He is wanted for first degree domestic violence assault.
“Unfortunately the suspect had been able to flee and was not in the home,” Schrock said.
