Firefighters pull dragon from Seattle house fire

Three homes caught fire as occupants slept in Seattle’s Maple Leaf neighborhood, Thursday morning. No one was harmed, yet, firefighters did complete one rescue.
“There was a bearded dragon in a terrarium that we were able to pull out,” said Kyle Moore with the Seattle Fire Department. “The lizard is here at our command post now.”
“He’s fine, doesn’t seem to be phased,” Moore said. “He’s a little cold. No one has wanted to put their hand in the cage to pet him, though.”
The Seattle Fire Department responded to multiple 911 calls around 3 a.m. for a fire in the Maple Leaf neighborhood. By the time firefighters arrived on scene, the flames had spread to more than one home in the area, and were threatening other structures.
“It started at a home under construction on 8th Avenue northeast,” Moore said. “The fire extended to a house at the north where four occupants were home. Then the fire spread to a home at the south where there were four people home.”
“When we arrived on scene we realized we had three houses on fire,” he said.
The two alarm fire gave Seattle firefighters cause to call for back up. Moore said that there were around 100 firefighters on the scene in the 8500 block of 8th Avenue NE, in the Maple Leaf neighborhood.
“The embers from the fire went across the alley and landed on a garage and caught that garage on fire. We put that out,” Moore said. “There was a fourth house were the smoke was going into their house, so we evacuated that house. They didn’t have fire damage, but had a lot of smoke damage.”
