Get ready for more hot temps this weekend in Seattle

May was hot in the Puget Sound region. In fact, it was the fourth hottest on record. And the thermometer won’t be dropping anytime soon.

This weekend has the potential to see 90 degree weather, according to the National Weather Service.
“Saturday and Sunday are going to be pretty warm,” said Johnny Berg with the National Weather Service. “We are looking at highs for Seattle about 88 on Saturday and 91 on Sunday.”
“While these are going to be warm, the records are 91 for Saturday, and 92 on Sunday,” he said. “So it’s looking like it might be close — as far as record breaking.”
The hottest Seattle has been so far this year was on April 18 when temperatures reached 89 degrees. There have been some record highs in June before — the record high for June 4 is 91 degrees, for example.
“The main thing is that it is going to be about 20 degrees above normal for this time of year,” Berg said. “Usually, we are seeing highs around 68 or 69 degrees the first few days of June.”
The earliest Seattle has experienced 90 degree weather was on May 17, 2008.
Temperatures will likely dip back into the 70s on Monday, and continue falling.
The warm weekend comes as last month proved to be the fourth hottest May on record, tying the 59.8-degree Fahrenheit average in 1992. That’s 3.8 degrees above normal, according to the Seattle Weather Blog. It also notes that the last time Seattle saw 90-degree weather was on Aug, 1, 2015.

While the temperatures are nearly record breaking, Seattle has reached new heights three times in the past — since records were kept dating back to 1894.
“There are only three times it reached over 100 degrees in Seattle in recorded history,” Berg said.
That was 100 degrees on July 16, 1941; 100 degrees on July 20, 1994; and 103 degrees in July 29, 2009 — the highest temperature recorded in Seattle.
