Police: 10-year-old escapes attempted kidnapping on DuPont trail

Aug 26, 2016, 8:24 AM

Police in DuPont say a ten year old girl escaped a man trying to abduct her by fighting back and biting him in the arm.

Police have released a composite sketch of a man they say is behind the August 18 incident.

The girl was walking near the 1200 block of Burnside place around 4:30 in the afternoon when the man rushed up and grabbed her, picking her up and carrying her down a trail toward a wooded area.

Police said she struggled with the man, biting him. She was able to escape his grasp and run to safety.

“I think that’s too close to where these nice homes are,” said Ashlyn Kapp, who walks the area with her dog Alpha. “There’s always kids outside, which is even more nerve wracking.”

DuPont police describe the man as a white male in his mid-20s, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, with a slim build. He has brown spiky hair and may have facial hair on his chin. The girl told investigators he has green or bright blue eyes, and was wearing a plain black tee shirt and blue jeans.

He may have a visible bite mark on one arm.

“We’re looking for help,” said detective Mike Cummings. “Anybody that can give us any tips. Particularly if they know somebody that has an unexplained bite mark.  We’d be interested in knowing about that person.”

Police said the man should be considered dangerous and warn anyone who spots someone matching the composite sketch not to approach him, but to call 911.
