‘Her girls were her everything’: GoFundMe raises more than $46,500 for family of woman who died in Enchantments

Sybil Claborn, 45, was killed, and her husband is recovering after they were stranded in the Enchantments during a snowstorm last weekend.
A GoFundMe has already raised more than $46,500 that will support her injured husband, Justin Claborn, and the couple’s three children.
On Sept. 13, a text-to-911 message from Justin warned police that the couple was stranded, at least eight to 10 miles away from the trailhead. The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said “significant snowfall” created a challenge for rescue efforts.
“Because of the remote location and deteriorating weather conditions, deputies determined the best option for a rescue would be the use of a helicopter if the weather cleared,” the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release. “However, the weather was preventing helicopter access to the area. At that point, the only other option was to get a ground team in as quickly as possible to try to warm her up. A ground rescue team was requested from Chelan County Mountain Rescue. They provide the quickest ground response possible.”
An Army helicopter attempted two rescues later that night, but couldn’t reach the couple due to the weather.
When Chelan County Mountain Rescue personnel finally reached the couple, they reported Sybil Claborn was dead, and her husband was suffering from severe hypothermia.
Justin Claborn was taken to Cascade Medical Center for treatment.

The GoFundMe page created by friend Laura Ronck remembers Sybil Claborn as a devoted mother.
“If you know Sybil, you know how deeply she loved her family,” the page reads. “Her girls were her everything. She showed up for them, advocated for them, celebrated them, and loved each of them exactly as they needed to be loved.
“She and Justin created a family filled with love, laughter, traditions, adventure, and so many memories,” it continues. “Sybil also had an incredible gift for making everyone around her feel loved. She was the friend who showed up, the person who made you laugh, and the person you could count on when life got hard. She gave so much of herself to the people she loved.”
The fundraiser shared that Justin Claborn returned home from the hospital, but his road to recovery involves several more months of bed rest.
