The heaviest rain Tuesday morning may have passed before the bulk of drivers hit the road, but it did its damage.

Drivers heading north on I-5 from Pierce County had the worst of it, thanks to a rollover crash north of SR 516 that cleared just before 7 a.m.

KIRO Radio’s Chris Sullivan reports was at least a 13-mile backup in the northbound lanes of I-5 that extended from Fife up to Kent. The backup was caused by a previous rollover on southbound I-5 near South 216th Street. The rollover was causing a distraction for drivers, Sullivan says.

Sullivan says the majority of frequently traveled roadways were seeing 10-minute delays no matter what.

“Some cases worse than that,” he said.
