House resembling Swiss cheese target of gang related gunfight in Central District

Oct 2, 2012, 3:51 PM | Updated: Oct 3, 2012, 7:03 am

More than a dozen bullets flew in Seattle’s Central District Monday shortly before midnight, but police didn’t know which bullet holes were new.

A man told police someone had knocked on the door of the house at 27th Avenue and E. Spring Street and then shot at the man through the front window while he was sitting with his grandmother.

The man then said he grabbed his own gun from inside the home and ran out to the porch where he saw two suspects running down the street.

One of the suspects opened fire on the man. He returned fire with at least a half-dozen more shots.

The man told police the suspects fled the scene in a Toyota Camry.

Police believe the incident is gang related. There were so many bullet holes in the house already that cops are unsure which were made during that night’s gunfight.

“These are targeted incidents where there are gang members. They’re actually targeting rival gang members,” said Renee Witt with Seattle Police.

The case has been turned over to Seattle Police Department’s Gang Unit.
